Natural and Homeopathic Remedies for Your Pets - Zumalka
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in pet care but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Suzie Cyrenne, Co-Founder of Zumalka, located in Quebec, QC, Canada.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
We offer a line of high-quality natural and homeopathic products for pets. Our customers all have one thing in common: they want what's best for their pets! Our customers come to us because they are into all things natural and strive to always treat their pets as naturally as possible, or some come to us because they are simply looking for the best results possible, therefore willing to try other alternatives to complement what they are already giving from their vet.
Tell us about yourself
A few years ago, I wasn’t comfortable with the high costs and the harsh chemicals that came with visiting the vet. I noticed it was hard to get the kind of care I felt they deserved. So I studied homeopathy, and I learned as much as I could in the pet health industry before starting my company a few years ago. My goal was to give other pet parents out there what they needed but couldn’t find: natural alternatives for their precious pet’s health and well-being.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Perseverance. When I look back on what I accomplished and how I grew in the last couple of years, I'm glad I persevered through thick and thin and overcame the challenges that have come before me. It has made me a better person overall and has allowed me to continue to help many pet owners in their quest to find the best natural treatments for their pet's health.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Remember to unplug and rest. I really love what I do, which is definitely a positive and for which I feel grateful for as so many people do not enjoy their job. On the other hand, knowing when to stop so as not to neglect the other important things in our life can quickly become a challenge. In theory, it's easy to do, but in practice, it's a little more difficult if you're not careful. I have to take a step back regularly to make sure that I am devoting enough time to care for my family and to rest. A work/life balance is very important in the long run.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Move quickly. Acting fast will just allow you to grow faster. Here's an example: If you usually take one week to make a decision, imagine making your decisions in 1 day instead. It'll have a compounding effect on your business, your growth, and your results.
- Be ready to face your fears; learn to embrace them. They are the sign that you are out of your comfort zone and that you are growing. The more you practice overcoming your fears, the easier it'll be, and you'll realize how much more capable you are than you thought.
- Surround yourself with people that are several steps in front of you. This will fast-forward your results, and you'll learn from others' experiences instead of learning from your painful mistakes.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
One other thing that has really been helpful for me is developing a growth mindset. I'm always reading, taking courses, asking for advice, learning from others, etc. It has helped me tremendously and has definitely shaped the person I am today.
