Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Erica Johnson, founder of Zodicakes, located in Duluth, GA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Zodicakes is based on those who not only are vegan, but they enjoy sweet treats. Veganism has already become so popular in the food industry but not a lot when it comes to baked goods. Being that Zodicakes is based in Atlanta, where are a variety of restaurants, especially Slutty Vegan. Zodicakes is willing to put our foot in the door so that vegans like me can still enjoy a delicious piece of cake.
Tell us about yourself
When I first started cooking, there was something more that I wanted to do. That's where baking came into the picture. It not only helped me be creative with different flavors, but it made me happy and also a stress reliever. Every time I hear one of my customers tell me how good my products are, it warms my heart, and it keeps me going.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment so far has been able to quit my job and actually work for myself.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
So far, the hardest thing, making sure that always organized, making sure all the ingredients and packaging. Especially doing everything at home.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Three tips I would give someone are to have a business plan, know you're consumers and have investors.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
If you want to have a business, make sure that you are passionate, have a great work ethic, and market yourself to gain more consumers.
