Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in sports and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Dominique Stasulli, Owner of Zeal Endurance Coaching, located in Boulder, CO, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I run an endurance and strength coaching business for competitive amateur and recreational athletes looking to be the best version of themselves in sports and life.

Tell us about yourself

I love seeing individuals uncover their own potential and how their athletic pursuits ground their mental, emotional, and physical health. I would like for all of my athletes to feel a sense of belonging as part of my team and a sense of their value under my mentorship. I see coaching as an opportunity to both educate and empower others to develop a growth mindset and the resiliency to tackle any new adventure or challenge that life brings. Athletic pursuits end up being the conduit for this type of skill development that then carries into other areas of life.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Building a culture of community and belonging for all of my athletes to feel like they are connected to something bigger than themselves. We are more than just race results and personal bests; we are a team of athletes coming together to support one another through every stage of life, challenges we encounter, and goals we set, with personal and collective growth at the forefront of our mission.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Time management is critical. It is often difficult to step away from work and take time for self-care when every hour counts toward keeping your business thriving and clients happy. However, the only way to avoid burnout is to carve time away from work life to recharge and open up room for curiosity, learning, and personal growth. This will ensure that both you and your business grow in parallel with one another.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Find a mentor who has led their life and career with intellectual humility.
  2. Never lose the curiosity that got you started down your path in the first place. There’s always more to learn, no matter how experienced or how educated you are.
  3. Be authentic in every interaction and with every decision you make for your business. If you put profits and growth above the people you serve, you'll quickly lose the authenticity that is essential for long-term success and the real connection that humans desperately need right now.
