Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in jewelry but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Catherine Zadeh, founder, designer, and CEO of ZADEH, located in New York, NY, USE.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Zadeh is luxury jewelry for the aesthetes of the world who have an appreciation for the unexpected and the original. In a sea of sameness, Zadeh is a beacon of unbridled individualism, evoking a carefree nonchalance, a fluidity between formal and casual, masculine and feminine.

Ethical in our production processes, we source sturdy and renewable materials to create refined and sophisticated designs that fit seamlessly into the active lifestyle of the modern man and woman. The unorthodox pairing of precious metals with exotic yet sustainable materials is reinvented in luxurious and unexpected ways elevating our jewelry into wearable art. Fearless, effortless, and distinct, Zadeh is jewelry you live in.

Tell us about yourself

When my husband grew tired of gifting me jewelry that did not inspire me, he offered instead to give me diamonds and suggested I design my own pieces around it. What motivates me to go to work every day is to bring another pair of eyes to my jewelry and to bring joy into that person's heart.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is to have started a jewelry business with no formal training, and to have developed a gender-neutral signature with a unique point of view, a luxury brand that is more relevant today than it has ever been...while raising three daughters.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

In my jewelry field, the hardest thing is to find someone you trust, to hire the right candidates who are passionate, and to delegate.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. First, you have to have passion for what you do so that every day it is fun to go to work.
  2. Establish a strong foundation with systems to allow the business to grow and scale.
  3. Have a trustworthy and complementary partner so that you're not alone on the journey.
