Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Zamanta Archibold, Owner of Za Yoga, located in South Miami, FL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Za Yoga Life is pretty simple, Zamanta Archibold, practicing a spiritual awakening through Yoga. Yoga, for me, is not just the physical movement from one pose to another, which is popularly known as "Vinyasa," but a more fluid movement of life-balancing moments. Our ups and downs, pain and pleasure, good and bad, are something we can't control, but with the proper techniques and awareness, we can learn how to manage and create a better life. That is what I teach and share through my work.

I made it my business to participate actively in the world's healing process. Practitioners come to my workshops and retreats or seek private consultation because they desire harmony in their life and understand it has to happen on many levels. So however you arrive in my class, rest assured we will practice all aspects of Yoga, movement, breathwork, meditation, and spiritual connection.

Tell us about yourself

I spent ten years putting myself through college to graduate with a BFA and work as a corporate Interior Designer. Only to realize that my days were spent from one deadline to the next. With the birth of my daughter, I knew something had to change. I couldn't be in two places simultaneously and be 100 percent without burning out. Something had to give.

In my case, one door led to another, and I found myself practicing Yoga after an injury while training for my black belt. The benefits were amazing. The more I practiced Yoga, the stronger and more fluid my body developed, the clear and calmer my thoughts were, and I felt exhilarated and energized. I like to say Yoga became the beginning and the end for me. What better motivation than a lifestyle that allows you the opportunity to discover and improve yourself each day? The only thing that could top that for me was to make it my business to support others through their journey.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I ran a successful business for 15 years while raising my daughter and creating an awesome relationship with my daughter. It was one of the most challenging experiences and most significant lessons I have ever learned but so worth it. Secondly, sharing and supporting others as they apply these Yoga techniques to benefit, grow and find joy in their lives brings tremendous pride and delight to my heart.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things about being a business owner is one of the most beautiful things about being a business owner. It is about what you put into it. You choose how you show up each day. You are responsible for how your business moves forward—a heavy financial weight with no one else to take accountability for the decisions you make but yourself. However, being a business owner gives you the independence and freedom to create, communicate and share your passion with a community of individuals searching for what you have to offer. Another beautiful aspect is when you get it right, not only do you provide a service, but you create deep, meaningful relationships.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Just start. If you wait for all the eggs to fit in the right basket, you might never find the right basket. Most of your expertise will come from trial and error, but that can’t happen unless you get out there and do it.
  2. Believe in yourself. If you don’t, who will? That doesn’t mean you won’t make mistakes, but if you are determined and passionate about what you want to accomplish, your failures can be opportunities and lessons.
  3. Your business will flourish if you are respectful, honest, and genuine in how you do business. Don’t cut corners or treat people unfairly.
