Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food service but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jacob Perez, Owner of Your Sous Chef, located in Coachella, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are a Personal Chef service taking care of clients of all ethnicities from around the world.

Tell us about yourself

I started in restaurants and worked my way up through the ranks, eventually earning the title of Executive Chef. Once I got a taste of working personally with clients, there was no turning back.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Creating my own website, I believe, gave me a head start without going into debt. I always get compliments on my site, and it is 100% homegrown.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

I think building the structure of the business is the biggest challenge. Developing protocols and procedures that work can be time-consuming and tedious but well worth it.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Don't go into debt.
  2. Make sure you are following the laws.
  3. Do lots of research.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Set goals. Set big goals and small goals. These work like motivational reminders and are very rewarding when accomplished. Always stay motivated and eager to hit the next goal.
