Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in writing and editing but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Cindy Winslow, Owner of Your Cup Of Copy, located in Mercer, PA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is a copy and content writing service. Your Cup Of Copy offers sales copywriting services, custom content creation, and online content management for busy Personal and Business Development coaches and trainers.

Tell us about yourself

I have been an entrepreneur for most of my career life. I spent many years as a real estate sales professional, new agent mentor, and trainer. I started a non-profit that built new homes and modified existing homes for people with disabilities. When our parent company lost funding, they quit funding our company. At that point, I knew I didn't want to return to a real estate agent's stressful, chaotic life. So, I started a virtual business. Initially working with real estate agents. I then made a pivot to embrace my love of writing. I particularly enjoy writing sales/persuasive copy.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I was asked to coach for a program that trains others on how to start a virtual freelancing business. I love helping others earn a living by doing what they love.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

I think the sole responsibility for the business is hard. Finding the time to get it all done can be challenging if you are not diligent about preserving time to work "on" your business.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Don't create a business offering services just because you know how to do them. Dive deep to find what you love to do, and create your business around that. Create a business you desire, not a business by default.
  2. Find a support network, coach, or another accountability partner who can support you.
  3. You don't have to adopt a hustle mentality, but recognize there are times in your business when you will have to work harder than others.
