Engineer Turned Content Creator - Diamond Davis

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Diamond Davis, Owner of Your Coilyness, located in Detroit, MI, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I'm a fashion and lifestyle content creator, influencer, and educator. I work with brands to create content to share on my social channels or theirs. I also do content creation education for those looking to learn more about being a content creator and actually monetizing a platform.

Tell us about yourself

I've always had a love for social media, even growing up. I started taking it more seriously about four years ago and haven't looked back. I love being able to share my lifestyle and authentic self with my audience. Being able to make a living off of being myself is very rewarding.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is leaving my engineering job to become a full-time content creator. It was a scary leap to take, but I'm so proud of myself for believing in my abilities. I really do think the universe rewards those who dare to dream.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Truly trusting yourself is one of the most complex parts of being a business owner. You have to trust yourself and your abilities; otherwise, you may make decisions out of fear instead of power. When we make decisions with a lack of mindset, it usually leads to a lack of results. It takes time to build that trust with yourself, but once you do, you'll always make better decisions.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Believe in yourself and your abilities because if you don't, how can you expect anyone else to? People want to work with others who are confident and sure of their business and the value they offer.
  2. Know your value! What are you bringing to the table? When you know your worth, it's a lot easier to negotiate and stand by your standards when you know what you're giving your customers.
  3. Invest in your craft! Whatever that looks like. Don't be afraid to put money into coaches, classes, help, or whatever else you need to take your business to the next stage. You can learn a lot on your own, but use the tools and resources around you to cut down on the learning curve.
