Natural Mind and Body Care - Your Body Needs
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal care but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Rose Chard, Owner of Your Body Needs, located in Annapolis, MD, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Your Body Needs—a wellness spa offering massage services and facial services using only product that is created by us. Our skincare and massage blends are formulated and manufactured in our studio. Our mission is to create a product with the ingredients the earth provides.
Tell us about yourself
Being raised by Italian immigrant parents whom themselves spent their childhood on a farm in Southern Italy, I learned early on the benefits of natural living. So, when I first heard about aromatherapy and essential oils at a very young age, this concept made complete sense to me. I was nineteen when I stopped using commercial skincare products to make my own. At thirty-eight, I opened my business with the intention of helping people through their self-care journey. Being also a spa, I am very fortunate to see how my product benefits my customers since many of them are service clients as well. Seeing the incredible life-changing skin changes and glow on my client's faces when they are loyal to our brand is truly so inspiring and continues to motivate me every day.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Knowing that our brand has given people confidence and has made them feel happier in their skin. We put every thought into providing products that are truly impacting. My biggest accomplishment is putting results before profit.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
A good business owner does not cut corners. You're always working even when you're not. Finding the sweet spot of downtime and responsibility is always a challenge.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Be honest about your strengths and limitations. A good business owner should have a strong constitution and be in good health, especially when starting out. It takes a lot of energy to build a business.
- Reading business books are great but take care to read the right ones. Many business books are written by people who sold their businesses for multiple millions. Even though that is a great goal, the reality is many business owners have modest budgets throughout the entirety of their careers, which usually means the owners need to wear many hats.
- Never burn bridges. A good business owner knows how to treat people with respect and stay humble. Integrity is a trait you should always hold on to. Desperation is not a good look.
