What's your business, and who are your customers?
Yoga Zen is a yoga studio that offers classes for all ages. We also offer massage therapy and reiki and have a retail boutique where we sell yoga gear and metaphysical items.
Tell us about yourself
I've been practicing yoga since 2012 while I was working my way up the corporate ladder in the Human Resources field. After a decade in HR and teaching yoga on the side, I took the leap into entrepreneurship in 2018 when I opened Yoga Zen. I appreciate the balance, creativity, and fun that yoga brings to my life, and I'm passionate about sharing the benefits of this ancient practice with those in the Yoga Zen community.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
When 1/3 of yoga studios and gyms closed during COVID, we were able to grow and expand into a bigger brick-and-mortar studio. I feel incredibly proud that we were able to maintain and grow our community during such a trying time for this type of business.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
As a sole owner, it can feel a little lonely at times. I know I care about the business more than anyone, which means that I should expect to work harder than anyone.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Surround yourself with a great team.
- Give yourself grace for the mistakes you'll inevitably make.
- Make time for self-care.
