Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Christine Shaw, founder, and CEO of YES - Yoga for Emotional Support, located in Newark, DE, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

YES- Yoga for Emotional Support; practices for befriending yourself were created to offer healing and calming techniques to those experiencing physical and emotional effects from trauma, grief, anxiety, depression, and life stress. These techniques are based on yoga and other spiritual practices of gentle and restorative postures, energy exercise, breathing, meditation, sound and aromatherapy, positive affirmations and visualizations, and more. These learned and practice techniques release life stress so individuals can thrive in life.

Tell us about yourself

I created YES based on my own emotionally overwhelming life experiences; fear over my daughter's substance use disorder and her well-being, helplessness from the effects of my husband's childhood trauma and the end of our marriage, and grief over my dad's passing. As a yoga teacher, I knew that yoga postures, breathing techniques, and other spiritual practices could help me to heal from these and any life stresses. I created a class that allows participants to let go of what doesn't serve them and invite in what will in a safe and welcoming environment. Each class offers a focus on one of five themes: heart opening, energy, clarity, breathing, and relaxation. Participants arrive with challenging life stuff and learn ways to practice self-care and self-love every day.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is creating a unique class that is so needed in today's world more than ever before. YES supports the participants wherever they are and helps them to know that they matter!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest part of owning a business is getting the word out. People need to know you are there for them so they can find the care and support they need.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Decide why you want to offer your services. Focus on the why. Get into massive action. When one idea fails, try another and another and another.
  2. Keep the enthusiasm high. No matter what, keep your clear intention and an elevated emotion on your business and do one thing every day towards that vision.
  3. Lead with Love. People will be attracted to you and your business when you lead with the generosity of spirit and go out of your way to show you care.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Everyone has the same needs: to be heard, understood, and loved. When we lead with love, we will make this a better world. YES- Yoga for Emotional Support offers ways to feel love towards yourself and others.
