Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health & wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Sara Mullins, Owner of Yoga & Fitness at The Post, located in Moore, OK, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I own Yoga & Fitness at The Post in Moore, Oklahoma. We instruct yoga classes at The Post for all levels and abilities. Our classes range from classes for complete relaxation to classes that will increase your heart rate and build strength. All of our classes will make you feel more relaxed, increase your flexibility and strength, and teach you how to move with mindfulness.
Tell us about yourself
My journey to opening a yoga studio has been a whirlwind! To begin with, I have always loved helping others. I have worked in various fields that have made me excel in making my customers feel like they are the most important person in the room (and they are to me!).
I went to school to teach music and then worked in the library. I opened a real estate brokerage with my husband, and now I have opened the studio to better myself and others in my local community.
My decision to open the studio revolves around my son. I have always been a little overweight, but when I was pregnant with my son in 2018, I was at my heaviest and most unhappy point in my life. When Samuel was born, I decided enough was enough and took my health into my own hands.
Through a series of events, my journey into healing and caring for my body led me to yoga. 70 lbs lighter and feeling better than I ever have. I will never look back. I am now on a mission to help others, like myself, who started from 0, feel the best they can!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is my students! Many of them are thriving in their lives and yoga practices, and many have even taken steps to become yoga instructors themselves.
There is no higher compliment in my mind than my students taking the same path I did, and it is such a joy to watch and encourage them along the way.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Finding a balance between caring for my family and running the business. I eat, breathe, and live in my studio most of the time, so I am working on scaling back and spending more time with my son!
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Find an excellent support team.
- Keep up with your customers. Phone calls, texts, and constant check-ins make the most loyal and happy customers.
- Just do it! Jump in. It's scary, but you keep going, pushing, falling, and getting back up and starting again.
