Tell us about yourself

In 2018, I had a profound spiritual experience. I was living in Colorado then, working endless hours as a social worker. At the time, it felt like I was laboring, depleting energy to pay bills and keep up with my mortgage. It seemed as if life was dead and the routine was stagnant. My life's purpose seemed further from reach, and I felt disconnected from my inner being. I was aching, hungry for a sense of "home," a place that didn't physically exist. In my moment of awakening, I heard a voice inside me directing me to renounce everything that I had envisioned myself as. The thought of renunciation was uncomfortable, but at that moment in my life, it seemed like a pleasant feeling. A call to action, a word of inspiration. From that, I was led to leave Colorado and move to San Diego, CA, searching for an entirely different way of life, a fresh perspective, perhaps. In California, strangers welcomed me into their homes and invited me into their lifestyles.

Each moment felt unreal. I felt like I was on a sabbatical, living each moment as if it was my last. Despite this, the inner voice that wanted me to renounce everything persisted in my consciousness. In response to that impulse, I abandoned the entire social identity I had ever known, including my family and friends. This impulse led me into nomadic experiences, living renounced, minimalist, out of a backpack for several months at a time while traveling solo across Mexico and Central America. I settled in Guatemala for a while, living as an ex-pat. I immersed myself in local communities, learning culture, arts, natural science, and Spanish, completely immersing myself in their way of mundane life.

While living in Antigua, Guatemala, I observed myself searching for a sacred place, a sense of home, a place where I felt like I belonged. I remember wandering through cobblestone streets, seeking a physical space where me and my body could simply be. The more I searched for a place of home, the more I was led into holistic practices and experiences. I started practicing yoga and meditation. My spiritual awakening symptoms started to dissipate in relief after continued practice. With confidence in my intuition, I intensified my yoga practices obsessively. Through that, I was led to meet tribal communities and Mayan Shamans with capacities to heal sickness. In the presence of the Shamans, I felt my inner being illuminated. I felt at once in alignment with my calling. I felt at home.

From that moment onward, my spiritual awakening intensified, and my deep wounds healed. I renounced myself completely and lived like an isolated monk for 2 years, self-studying myself, mastering my shortcomings, and taming my own mind. This has been the greatest achievement for me, and it is now my sole motivator each and every day. My discipline and commitment to myself are what allow me to receive daily motivation from within my inner Being so that I mindfully respond with divine inspiration. Yin-Yang Healing Arts was founded as a result of this.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Yin Yang Healing Arts, LLC has been the most significant accomplishment for me. It happened so fast. I literally surrendered my egoic mind and trusted the flow of the Universe. I launched the business midway through December 2022 after receiving inspired direction from within my Being. Within days, Yin Yang Healing Arts, LLC made its presence known, and clients started pouring in like blessings from the sky. In my practice, I do not feel like I am working. I am more alive, more alert, and aligned with my inner self as a result of every person I encounter. And this is a gift that is enabling me to expand, not only spiritually but physically, allowing me to offer healing in a vast variety of methods. Yoga is, by far, my favorite method of healing. It brings me much joy to share my inner-inspired work with all those whom I may have the privilege to encounter.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

For me, advertising is one of the hardest challenges as a small business owner. Thus far, Yin Yang Healing Arts has operated locally without the influence of social media. I have personally made a year commitment to myself to refrain from social media use so that I could focus my attention on my local roots. So advertising, at least initially, felt like effort galore, like I was exhausting myself. Advertising is really not my cup of tea. However, the experience served as an excellent contrast to remind my egoistic self to give up control of the natural flow of business. In that realization, I opened myself to receiving advertising almost magnetically. Word-of-mouth advertising has served me well, and other methods are opening up. I am grateful for where Yin Yang Healing Arts currently stands. I am beyond excited to witness the business expand and grow!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Believe in yourself, align with your intuition, and trust that your goal will unfold. Watch the Universe align all the stars in the sky to enable you to live your dream and experience blissful satisfaction. In order to start or grow a business, focus on what you want to do and why you want to do it. Allow your why to be inspired and influenced by your inner being. This will ensure that every setback you may experience on your business journey will feel exactly as it's meant to be, invigorating and empowering you to keep moving forward, trusting the source energy emanating from within.
  2. Be open to receiving help. Part of growth is attracting people into your experiences who will gift you helping hands and encouraging words of wisdom on your journey. Your purpose is served by every encounter you have. Accept help as a token of gratitude to the Universe for giving you exactly what you need to achieve your goal.
  3. Be open to failure and enjoy the entire business journey. Once the business starts and gains momentum, things move fast. Be alert and present in every moment. The universe conspires for your greatest good. Allow your understanding of failure to inspire you to redirect your energy toward fine-tuning your business goals.
