Book a Private Chef Within a Few Clicks - yhangry
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Siddhi Mittal, Co-Founder of yhangry, located in London, England, UK.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
yhangry is a marketplace where you can hire a private chef within a few minutes. Think dinner with friends, meal prep, holiday home, wedding, engagement dinner. The goal is to make chefs accessible and easy to book. Our customers range from 20-70 of age. Birthdays, celebrations, and holiday home dinners are the biggest reasons to book a chef. We also have a lot of people looking for private chefs because of the increasing amount of dietary requirements within the group.
Tell us about yourself
I was born in Delhi (India), went to Columbia University (New York) for undergrad, and moved to London to be a financial trader for 6 years. I met my co-founder Heinin when I worked at Barclays. We were immigrants, busy with our corporate jobs, and yearned for home-cooked food at home. On the other hand, we knew being a chef is hard work, and chefs would be more than willing to earn an extra income on the side. We spotted a gap and decided to solve our own problem. The vision of creating a world where anyone anywhere can have access to great home-cooked food inspires me to keep going. My sense of purpose skyrockets when I see chefs earning life-changing £££ on the yhangry platform.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Hard work and luck have created a lot of great opportunities for us (Google for Startups, Dragons Den, Y combinator), to name a few. I feel my biggest accomplishment is to have grown our company to where we are today through the volatile and dark times of COVID. Finding strength and resilience through the past two years has been hugely positive. If we can survive that, we can survive anything.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
The hardest thing is to train your mind to stay calm through the volatile ups and downs of the journey. It's true that the highs are higher, but the lows are very low. Having the discipline to train your mind to go through the journey is hard and needs deep work.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Open your laptop and sit in a cafe in every bit of spare time you have. The only way is to carve out time, get started and do something every day.
- Find a co-founder with whom the journey is fun, exciting, and a breeze!
- Reach out to founders to create your network. You can spend multiple days trying to find an answer or just ask a few people slightly ahead of you how they did it. The power of a network is HUGE.
