Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in advertising services but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jay Rathell, Owner of Yamaro83, located in Honolulu, HI, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I'm Jay Rathell, a paid social expert in B2B and higher education, and I help them exceed their enrollment goals so they can grow and increase revenue. We focus only on your end goal, not worthless vanity metrics. We don't just do leads. Any agency can do that. We create social media marketing systems that take the burden off you, increase your revenue & increase your ROI. But most importantly, our system gives you peace of mind.
Tell us about yourself
In 2018 I decided to run for a local city council race with no help or experience, only my drive for a better community. Despite my best efforts, getting endorsed, door knocking, and buying signs...I still lost. I was devastated, my soul crushed. After my crushing defeat, I understood the trials and tribulations of running a campaign and how you really need to get your message out effectively to the masses. Running parallel to my campaign, I worked at a vocational school, my second education institution. Like most schools, the goal was to increase enrollment through various marketing. They worked with a digital marketing agency; it didn't take me a long time to realize the company was doing more harm than good. High cost and low results. This became a recurring trend I noticed, especially with education enrollment marketing.
I learned again that higher education, like people running for office, both needed to have effective, purposeful personal ways to deliver their message. Now I help higher ed and the brave souls running for office get their message out through effective personalized digital marketing systems. That's how Yamaro83 was born.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Literally keeping going. It can be very easy to just throw in the bowl, so I don't use motivation for anything. I try to be consistent no matter what.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Overall business systems and scaling.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Pick a lane and stick to it; there are always new shiny things to get distracted by. Don't worry about the small stuff so much; just go! And it's a marathon, not a race.
