Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in digital marketing but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Tony Pec, Co-Founder of Y Not You Media, located in Port Chester, NY, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am the Co-founder of Y Not You Media, a Forbes-accredited digital marketing agency that helps businesses & entrepreneurs build their brand online & take advantage of social media to generate leads & sales. Y Not You specializes in content creation by providing "out-of-the-box" ideas to captivate our customer's audience.
Tell us about yourself
Completely accidental. I started by building 14 of my own niche Instagram accounts to over 400k followers in just 4 short months back in 2016. From there, others would ask me to post their content on my niche pages & eventually ask to grow their followers. We started out as an Instagram growth agency to now a digital marketing agency that helps with all things digital. I'm motivated each day to help other businesses & entrepreneurs take advantage of social media to create success as I've been able to for myself. So many businesses have great products or services, but they don't understand how to effectively utilize the digital landscape. I love being able to help them do so.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
The number of business owners we've been able to directly help positively impact their business. Each business is run by people & these people have families, of which many I am fortunate to get to meet. But it's an amazing accomplishment when younger professionals like myself & my team are able to make a direct positive effect in the lives of these older business owners.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
I don't see many things as being hard because I'm a business owner. I know what I got myself into & I would never change it for anything. The alternative is working a 9-5 job which I did & I hated it. So anything that others perceive as "hard" in business to me is a blessing to even have to deal with & overcome because the alternative is me having a 9-5, which is the hardest thing for me to ever have to do. I'll take longer days working for myself with no days off than 40 hours a week for someone else.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- GROW your network. Everything I've achieved so far & will achieve is purely because of relationships. Take the time to meet new people, but most importantly, stay in touch with people.
- Double down on your strengths. Learn what you're good at & like to do & learn what you're not good at. Delegate, hire, or partner for all things you're not good at & have no interest in. Allow yourself to double down on your strengths, and the results will compound exponentially over time.
- Give, give, give, give, give, give. Everyone always wants something from others before they give it to them. Instead, give with no expectation of getting anything in return & watch how positively that compounds for you over them.
