Crafted Sea Moss Gel, Made With Living Water - Xicana Moss
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and supplements but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Melania Nunez, Owner of Xicana Moss, located in Cicero, IL, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
We make Crafted Sea Moss, with the focus being to retain a cultural identity through our Latino flavors. My customers are those looking for a naturopathic approach to wellness. At the same time, connecting to their roots and origin.
Tell us about yourself
I have been an entrepreneur for 6 years, and in 2019, my health took a toll. Going into 2020, with the world was hit with COVID, I focused more on my health and discovered a naturopathic healing approach. But didn't see many that looked like me or had my background offering a product or service to help. So we started Xicana Moss in the Summer of 2022.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
The messages of gratitude from my customers post trying our product. Helping others solve a wellness challenge they may be facing. And the overall opportunity to serve at such a large scale in such a short amount of time.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Finance!!!! When opening a business, you're running on grit and motivation. Then the real part starts with marketing tools, production, merchandise, etc. And as a first-generation Latina, finances is not something many of us grow up learning. So Xicana Moss has been learning as we go through the hurdles. Our goal is to offer value while not compromising accessibility to our product.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
As a Latina business owner, first find a POS that supports and cares about your best interest as a new business, such as https://cashdrop.biz, run by Latinos for everyone. Second, find a mentor, whether through books, virtual, or podcasts. Make sure to follow those that align with your values and purpose in business; your intention behind it matters. And third, talk to those closest to you and let them know you're about to start the most amazing adventure of your life and need their support; it's hard to run on your own. Never give up on yourself!!!!!
