Consumption With Purpose - Wunder Workshop
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Zoe Lind van't Hof, founder of Wunder Workshop, located in Palma, Mallorca, Spain.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am the founder of Wunder Workshop, which is a regenerative business that works with farmers, the planet, and soil to create healthy functional products such as teas, tinctures, adaptogen blends, honey, and many more. We work with small community farmers across the world and strongly focus on increasing biodiversity by supporting those farmers that use techniques that work in tune with nature and not against her. Our customers range from millennials who are interested in supporting sustainable small businesses and see health products as an investment into their future all the way up to older people who are looking to support their health.
Tell us about yourself
I grew up surrounded by herbs and botanicals, spent my time foraging from an early age, and was raised with biodynamic and organic produce. My late mother taught me all the plant wisdom, and I am so thankful for the knowledge that has been passed on to me from an early age. I made a little detour and went to study political science and International Relations, with a Master's degree focusing on climate change and food security. After dabbling in different career paths, I decided to go back to what matters to me the most, and that is the health of the planet, those who tend to the land and working with plants for our own well-being.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Feeling that I am living in my purpose, and it's incredibly rewarding to visit the farmers, learn from them, and be able to support them by creating products with their beautiful ingredients. I am so thankful when people purchase our products, as that supports these brave farming communities that stick to their traditional ways of farming, avoiding mono-culture and Big Agriculture.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
To a degree, I love uncertainty, and I thrive on it, but sometimes it can be equally devastating and difficult when things change from one day to another. Two huge disruptive things were Brexit and the Covid lockdowns; as for most small businesses, they have harmed our small business and its plans for the future. However, we learn to reinvent ourselves constantly, which is such a learning journey for me personally and for the business.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
First of all, just start! I believe that by overthinking and over-planning, one can become fearful of what could go wrong, which in turn can stop you from starting at all. So it's best to just go with the flow and make changes along the way rather than waiting for everything to be "perfect'."
Secondly, learn to love uncertainty. It's part of everyday life, but we are often fearful of it. Starting to learn uncertainty opens up many opportunities.
Thirdly, be kind to yourself. It's easy to overwork and burns out, especially as business owners. I am learning this more and more, and now I actually schedule moments of rest in my diary so that I make sure to really look after myself. Things can really sometimes wait, but it's so easy to push oneself into overdrive, thinking that everything needs to be handled straight away.
