Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in photography but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Lacey Vandermeer, Founder of Woodville Dream Photography, located in Denver, CO, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am a Professional Portrait Photographer. I take Family and Engagement Portraits.
Tell us about yourself
I have been a professional photographer since 2008. I have done mainly portraits as I love meeting people and hearing their stories. I used to do mainly weddings but changed my focus to more of an intimate setting. I got into photography when I was young, getting my first camera at 8, taking pictures of everything and friends. Once I moved back to Colorado, I started finding a love of landscape photography and enjoyed hiking to spots that allowed me to capture sunsets and beautiful sceneries. Photography is my way of holding onto a moment for a lifetime.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I would have to say my biggest accomplishment is getting more recognized, especially once I moved to Denver. Having more opportunities and living in a city full of arts.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The most challenging would be not letting competition scare you. Trying to keep unique when so many other people are doing the same job as you. So finding ways to stay true to my style.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Three tips for a new business owner would be to get a business coach, listen to your clients and what they want, and keep learning new tools to use for your business. Knowledge is endless.
