Making Mondays Extraordinary - Wonder Monday

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Candace Wu, co-founder of Wonder Monday, located in Boston, MA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We make the best cheesecakes you've ever had — minus the sugar and junk. ✨

Wonder Monday reimagines America's favorite dessert: the cheesecake. We've spent over a year crafting the world's best low-carb, high protein cheesecake that tastes just like the real deal. Give it a try at wondermonday.com.

Tell us about yourself

In the middle of the pandemic (March 2020), I quit my job to start something new. This was one of the biggest leaps I've taken in my life and career. I had no idea what was coming next. Simultaneously, my partner, Jonathan, had just finished up at the startup he previously cofounded. The only thing I knew for sure was that we wanted to create something we could use (or eat!) every day together!

If there's one thing to know about us, it's that we care a lot about food. We're the kind of people to read every ingredient on the nutrition label. On a Sunday night, you'll find us meal prepping 30 meals for the upcoming week. We also love going on dates to our fave supermarkets. Yep, we're a match made in heaven.👼

And, we're also two humans who love sweets. Everyone loves cheesecake, and we're no exception. But as we searched for healthy options, we were struck by how stuck in the past the classic dessert brands were.

So we set out to reinvent the cheesecake — our way. We spent over a year experimenting with creating the best cheesecake you've ever had, minus the sugar, carbs, and junk. And Wonder Monday was born! We started Wonder Monday to create snacks that let you boldly step into what makes you feel most alive. Everyone knows Mondays get a bad rap. There's a lot of dread surrounding the start of a new week. It's back to the daily grind. After all, the start of a new week is a new chance to thrive.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

One of the most satisfying moments was when a customer wrote in and shared that cheesecake was their favorite childhood dessert. However, due to medical conditions, they haven't had it in years. When they tried ours, it was just like all those years ago — pure bliss!

So much of building our brand and creating our product is to give people the joy of food. It blows my mind that thousands of people have experienced our brand and our cheesecakes.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest thing about being an entrepreneur is embracing the highs and lows. There will always be both, so it's essential to know how to take care of yourself — fully — in these hard moments.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Focus on what's essential.
  2. Embrace failure.
  3. Always ask for help.
