What's your business, and who are your customers?
I'm a professional speaker, best-selling author, content creator, speaker coach, and founder of Women Empower X. My mission is to empower driven leaders to share their stories so that they can rise above the noise and have the impact and income they desire.
We help entrepreneurs, coaches, authors, and creators grow their businesses and brand through public speaking and amplification of their voices on multiple platforms. Through our courses, masterminds, and events, we connect diverse leaders and help them scale their businesses through their most powerful marketing vehicle: their voice.
Tell us about yourself
I started my first business at the age of 17, always with a mission to make a difference in at least one person's life every day. At the age of 21, I had a near-death experience where my body went into septic shock, and I was given a 1% chance to live. This experience led me to share my story vulnerably and authentically with audiences all over the world, in-person and online, through social media platforms.
As I continued to speak, I noticed a big disconnect among women of different backgrounds, industries, and ages, and that's what inspired me to start Women Empower X. to create an event that focused on collaboration over competition and got diverse women in the same room to learn and grow together. To date, we've connected over 20,000 women in-person at our events since 2016 and another 100,000 people online.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
That's a tough one! I'd have to say my biggest accomplishment as a business owner has been the ability to adapt to all the challenges that have come my way, so I was able to continue striving toward my dreams. That's why I titled my book, "Adaptable: How to Lead with Curiosity, Pivot with Purpose, and Thrive through Change." Being adaptable in life and business is so key to achieving success!
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The most challenging part of owning a business is that you never get a real break from it. You are always thinking about it, and it's always on your mind. There are a lot of pros and cons to entrepreneurship, and that's why it's so important to have a passion behind what you do because that passion will help you push through the hard times.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Gather the courage to tell your story. That is the most powerful way to rise above the noise and stand out from the competition.
- Learn to be adaptable. Remember, there are a million ways to get to where you want to be. Adapt to what you can't control and continue moving forward.
- Make an investment in yourself. You are your best investment, and once you decide to invest money in a coach, program, or hiring someone, you'll set yourself up with the mindset to ask for more money in your own business while also growing much faster than trying to figure it out all on your own.
