Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Michelle Williams, Founder, and CEO of Wishing Well Works, located in Tampa, FL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are a corporate well-being company located in Tampa, Florida. We help our clients increase employee morale, better employee well-being, and increase employee retention while we help their employees access healthy living education. We live to help people find passion in wellness.

Tell us about yourself

I am a small business owner who has been working in the wellness field for 18 years. I started as personal training and worked my way through the ranks of the private gym industry until landing as a health educator for large corporations before opening Wishing Well Works in 2015. I am passionate about health and wellness and decided to open WWW after working in corporate wellness as a contractor. I have a Master's degree in family relations and human behavior, which has allowed me to create health programs with a behavioral and environmental approach. There is more to well-being than eating 'right' and exercising. It is about self-care, time management, stress reduction, and mental health.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

We have become the most recognizable corporate wellness company in the Tampa Bay region. We have had the opportunity to work with government entities and private businesses all over the state of Florida and continue to pursue big dreams as it relates to creating a healthier community overall.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Delegation. Plain and simple. It is hard to work at your dream and see it become successful and allow others to make decisions. As a small business, I end up being the director of sales, marketing, implementation, and customer service. Sometimes it is hard to balance everything.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Make a detailed business plan. Do a SWOT analysis. It is important to know the ins and outs of your idea to ensure it is viable. Be open to critique and surround yourself with people you trust. Be very aware of your financial stability as a business and try to make decisions a quarter at a time because you never know when the next sale will come in, and you need to prepare for that, especially in the initial year of business.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Owning a business is the best thing that has ever happened to me professionally. It is hard to get to a place where you feel like you can relax, but it is also amazing to have the autonomy and ability to do what I want to do. I feel like my life is much less stressful because I am in charge of my time, and I get to decide what to do and when. Being an entrepreneur is not all cupcakes and ice cream, but it is exciting and fun, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
