What's your business, and who are your customers?
The Wise Up Foundation is a nonprofit organization that serves our youth and military through three primary programs – WISE BIG MAN CAMP, BRIDGE 2 TRADE, and HOT MEALS 4 VETS.
Tell us about yourself
The foundation is a labor of love founded by my family and me and is all about creating events and programs that inspire, educate and unify others through service. Our family has been serving communities for years through toy drives, soup kitchens, and other community service events. We launched the foundation to help others gain wisdom and to promote success in the people we serve.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Our biggest accomplishment is, no doubt, hearing the feedback from the people we serve. Some have gotten scholarships after attending our WISE BIG MAN CAMP, which helps linemen develop their techniques, as well as their physical and psychological character. Others have changed their whole mindset in what they wanted to do or accomplish after high school while attending our BRIDGE 2 TRADE, where we introduce and educate kids about the benefits of construction and tech trades. Or the heartwarming stories we hear each year from grateful veterans during our HOT MEALS 4 VETS event we organize on Christmas Eve.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Constructing your back office to make sure all of your paperwork and transactions are legit. Also, vetting of people you work with.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Find and follow your passion.
- Educate yourself daily on what you want to accomplish.
- Find a respectable mentor!
