Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Gary Campbell, Co-Founder and CEO of WineView, located in Atlanta, GA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We believe everyone should be able to enjoy great wine. We are building an app that gives servers and customers the ability to elevate every meal with wine and food pairings. We partner with restaurants to increase their wine sales while saving time and delighting guests.

Tell us about yourself

We started in August 2020. While our product has changed dramatically since then, we've always held true to our main mission of giving everyone a chance to experience the incredible world of wine without the stress of making a tough decision.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Building an incredible team (up to 11 members now) and having the wherewithal to withstand multiple pivots.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Our team is primarily remote, so we have to work pretty hard to maintain constant communication. We've found weekly team "meetings" and one-on-ones help this. We are also having our first annual retreat in the mountains.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Don't just pick a problem to solve without a "why." You will need a strong reason to keep going when things are tough, and "getting rich" won't do that for you.
  2. Don't buy into the hype. You'll see a ton of success stories posted all over the media. Know that even multi-billion dollar companies have basic problems like team comms and scheduling issues. Keep your head down, focus on your organization, and know that other companies have the exact same issues.
  3. Talk to your users and try to get them to pay for the most basic version possible. An "MVP" of sorts that you can cheaply build and test. A big mistake we made out of the gate was waiting too long with our initial product. The last thing you want is to look back and go, "Wow, we could have spent X to find that out, but instead, we spent X!"
