Simple, Yet Relatable - Window Seat Coffee
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kristen Boyd, owner of Window Seat Coffee, located in Dallas, TX, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Window Seat Coffee is a coffee roastery and cafe designed for those who want a chance to get away (and those who love great coffee!). Whether on a quick coffee run, away with the family at the lake, or on an epic trip around the world, we have all experienced the energizing feeling of getting away from it all.
Tell us about yourself
My husband and I are CPAs and came up with the idea for Window Seat Coffee while working in public accounting. We dreamed of a fresh start and a new adventure. One day, while out on our daily coffee run, it hit us: getting out of the office and taking even a small break was all we needed to power through our day. We wanted to make that simple yet relatable, feeling the spirit of our new business.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I think taking the leap from a steady job to an entrepreneur only to open a retail coffee shop just before the pandemic (March 19, 2020, to be exact) and still being open two years later is our greatest accomplishment so far. It has been a long road, but I am so happy to be on it!
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
One of the hardest things that come with being a business owner is trying to make the best decisions for yourself, your employees, and your customers. It is impossible to please all the people all the time, and you just have to stay true to yourself!
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Find your "why" and let that be your motivation to keep going during the tough times (which will come)!
- Be authentic to yourself and surround yourself with people who will be supportive of you.
- Don't give up!
