Transform Your Body and Mind - Teresa Hoeckh
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Teresa Hoeckh, founder of Win The Day Fitness & Nutrition, located in Sarasota, FL, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I help men and women transform their bodies and mindsets through proper nutrition and training. Unlike many coaches in the industry who only offer clients their “macro” distribution ranges, my approach is different. I believe that the quality of foods we choose helps us improve our relationships with food. This is why I offer completely customized meal plans based on a client’s likes and goals. I offer multiple meal ideas, so no day has to be exactly the same unless the client prefers it.
My approach helps clients create healthy, long-term habits rooted in nutrition. It teaches clients discipline, prioritizes balanced meals, and focuses on nutritional value. I take the guesswork out of each day so that my clients develop a routine rather than cave in to what they may be craving that specific day. 100% of my clients have seen positive results after just a week on my diet plans - oh, and I should mention, they are never hungry!
My training plans are also incredibly detailed to help my clients feel comfortable and confident in the gym. All training plans are customized based on individuals' goals, so no two plans ever look the same, unlike the apps out there that create programs based on minimal background information.
As a coach, I am always available to my clients Monday-Friday because I want to see them win just as much as they do! I will never take on more clients than I can handle on my own, which separates me from some of the more popular coaches in the industry. I want every client to feel just as important as the next.
Tell us about yourself
I first started training in a gym when I was 18 years old. I had no clue what I was doing. My brother was a big inspiration to me. He began competing in bodybuilding at an early age, and I went to a competition to support him. I saw how fit the female competitors looked and told myself I wanted to be strong like that one day, too. I began training harder and becoming stronger, but it wasn’t until I got my diet in order that I was able to really see the muscle I had put on.
I worked with a coach to get myself where I needed to be and eventually competed in bikini bodybuilding. I won 1st and 2nd place and became nationally qualified. Years following, I focused on learning about the body, nutrition, and training as much as I could. Eventually, I obtained my personal training and nutritionist certifications through ISSA. I used my knowledge and experience to teach others how to transform their bodies.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Some of my biggest accomplishments as a coach are hearing all of the wonderful things my clients have to say about their experiences. Their confidence in and out of the gym, their new relationship with food, and how proud they are of themselves. These comments are exactly why I love what I do.
Many begin working with me, scared they will lack the motivation to stick to the plan. And many do lack motivation. After all, it’s not normal to feel motivated every day. The difference with my clients is that their motivation gets replaced with more important qualities: willpower and discipline. And when I see that happen, it brings me so much joy.
I am always there to push my clients as best I can and educate them. Realistically I know no client will work with me forever. When it’s time for us to part ways, I want my client’s newfound relationship with food, newfound discipline, and newfound confidence to stick with them long term. I always tell my clients that longevity is the name of the game. I am here to help them reach their short-term goals just as much as I am here to educate them so that they can sustain this lifestyle beyond their time with me. I feel the most accomplished when I know that physically they have reached their goals, but mentally they are in a much better headspace.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
One of the most difficult jobs I have as a coach is deciding if a client and I are a good fit. A client’s expectations must be realistic and healthy. A client must be willing to put the work in. A client must be willing to communicate with me honestly and thoroughly. A client must be willing to trust my expertise.
Unfortunately, these qualities cannot always be met, making my job as a coach challenging. While there is no “ideal” client, I look for individuals who are 100% ready to make a lifestyle change (or who are willing to work up to that 100%). I will do my absolute best to get a client there, but I cannot do the work for them.
