What's your business, and who are your customers?
WickT Candle Company is a self-care and self-love brand. The goal of my brand is to provide a luxury experience and allow my customers to create memories, set the perfect tone for their mood, and to add a little something special to their existing self-care routine. We want to bring instant happiness to each home, car, and personal space.
Tell us about yourself
Like many of us during the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, I was quarantined and found myself buying more and more candles each time I went to the store. Unfortunately, these candles were turning my walls black from the soot produced while burning. When I did more research, I found that the candles I love for self-care and relaxation were actually filled with chemicals and toxins. That's when I decided to begin making candles for myself and my loved ones in September 2020. Once I realized how much I loved making candles and how therapeutic it was for me, I decided I wanted to bring clean and beautiful smelling candles to everyone's home, especially after the positive feedback I'd received from family and friends. Thus, WickT Candle Company was born in January 2021 in Dallas, Texas. Achieving the goals that I have set for myself and my business is my daily motivation to keep going!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is making it through my first year and networking with other small businesses to get my products in stores locally. I want to continue to grow and eventually be proud of my future accomplishments.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
One of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner is definitely self-doubt. One minute, you think you're doing a great job and that everything comes so easily; the next day, you're crying because you feel like you're not doing something right or that you're not doing enough. It's like a never-ending rollercoaster.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Do your research and become well educated on what you want to do.
- Stay focused and stay positive as it pertains to your brand.
- Stay in your lane and never compare yourself to others and what they're doing.
