Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Lindsay Gorske, Founder of Wholehearted Girls, located in Erie, CO, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

At Wholehearted Girls are mission is to empower girls to unlock their potential and live courageously. We want to start early and teach young girls the strategies to learn how to navigate through life using our power words. Self-love, letting go, courage and authenticity and leave a lasting impression and create a sisterhood to empower each other to follow their paths.

When you know who you are, love yourself wholeheartedly, learn to let go of the things that don’t matter and have the courage to be afraid and do it anyway. That is when new experiences happen, and the path to your journey gets even better. My customers are between 9-14 years old and working on a teen program for the future.

Tell us about yourself

This story started years ago when I won a pageant called the women of achievement, and you had to bring community service to your platform. I ended up winning that pageant, the only pageant I’ve ever done, and it was all because I have always been inspired by my own three girls and wanted a place for them to go when they have moments of doubt and to be reminded that they are great and have the greatness to give to the world. They just need to be reminded and taught.

Parenting is hard and parenting girls today is especially hard. This program was created with your daughter in mind. As moms, all we want is for our daughters to feel empowered and confident. To be strong in situations and not lose who they are when social media runs the world. My main goal here is to help YOU, the mom, and your daughter. For the moms, this is the place to find resources to help inspire their daughters. For the girls, to give them strategies to take with them for a lifetime, not to take a crap or fall into a hole of hopelessness. I want the girls to know how to rise up in moments of doubt.

It truly makes me happy when I hear moms tell me that their daughters are using the strategies and when I see my own girls being leaders of this program and hearing them use what Wholehearted Girls have brought to their lives. That’s what motivates me.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Right now, knowing that I’ve created something from the ground up all by myself. I’ve spent hours teaching myself the next steps to creating a business.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is also one of the hardest things as a business owner -  doing it all.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

When starting a business, I tell people to get a logo and a brand kit. Everything you do going forward will be around your brand, its colors, and its mission. Start there, and your ideas will be flowing in.

Next, start a social media platform and start promoting yourself right away. Create an email list early.

Lastly, nothing needs to be perfect. Done is better than perfect, and you can always go back and tweak things later. Do not wait for things to be perfect.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

You have nothing to lose when starting a business. Have an idea; go for it; there is room for everyone and opportunities are endless.
