Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in fitness and health but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Maggie Yount, Owner and Founder of Whole Healthy Mama, located in Bozeman, MT, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Whole Healthy Mama is customized personal training for birthing people in all stages of parenthood, from preconception to years postpartum. Our holistic fertility and pregnancy safe coaching helps clients to get fit for birth, and recover better and faster after a baby is born while optimizing their core and full-body function with corrective exercise and education.
Tell us about yourself
I discovered my passion for fitness while on a 7-year journey to recovery after a head-on collision with a drunk driver almost took my life. After becoming a certified personal trainer, I found that general fitness wasn't my calling and after the birth of my first child, I discovered my passion and my niche in pre & postnatal corrective exercise. Empowering clients to have healthier, more comfortable pregnancies, agency and autonomy in their birth experience, and easier postpartum recoveries as they navigate becoming a parent is what motivates me every day. Our current birth culture strips power away from birthing parents, making them fearful of birth despite the body knowing how to birth just like it knows how to breathe. My personal training is not just about fitness but coaching clients to trust their body and their choices.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
As a business owner, I say my biggest accomplishment is seeing my clients get stronger at every perinatal stage, enter postpartum with little to no core or pelvic floor dysfunction, and have positive feelings about their births.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
One of the hardest things that come with being a business owner is knowing how and when to market my services, when and where to host workshops, and staying confident in long-term business growth when there are inevitable bumps in the road.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
My top three tips for anyone looking to start, run, and grow a business today is to do something you love so much you would do it for free but always charge your worth. Don't be afraid to ask for help because no one does it alone and the right help can come from the unlikeliest of places! And even when you feel discouraged, DO something, anything, because action is the cure for fear.
