Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Wahida Gardizi, founder of WG Communications, located in Vancouver, BC, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

A PR and Digital Marketing Consultancy dedicated to helping organizations and brands tell their brand stories. I work with lifestyle brands, health and wellness, coaches, and small businesses.

Tell us about yourself

I am a communications and digital marketing specialist with five years of experience with PR, Communication, and Digital Marketing Strategy. I believe in the power of storytelling. I have made it my mission to help brands thrive and tell its story. I launched WG Communications during the Pandemic in the year 2020. I saw it as an opportunity to start my online business when I saw many brands struggling with maintaining an online presence. I am passionate about making connections between people, so I strongly believe in community building and engagement, which is reflected in my drive to focus on wellness and lifestyle brands promoting good mental and physical health. I discovered my passion for wellness, life coaching, and lifestyle during my graduate program when I investigated how PR could help bring awareness to mental health issues among graduate students. My work motivates me each day to do what I do. Also, helping other brands thrive is what excites me. I see myself as a lifelong learner and can be found reading self-help books or taking courses in digital marketing.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Launching and registering my business.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Being disciplined and motivated is one of the challenges for me. Also, putting in long hours and being flexible with the outcome. As a self-employed person, it is hard to manage everything by myself. It gets very challenging to juggle between tasks, but it has been a great challenge for me so far.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Just start. I would advise you to write your business plan first, and work with a business consultant. You will eventually learn how to run a business, so the important part is to just start. You also need to figure out and understand why you do what you do. That's very important. And be consistent with your work. Keep working at it; it will get better. Baby steps!
