A Lifetime In The Arts - Weston World Productions

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in entertainment but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Peggy Weston, Founder of Weston World Productions, LLC, located in Richmond, VA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business, Weston World Productions, LLC, encompasses my work in the performing arts as a vocalist, actress, educator, and arts management consultant. I also work in stage and film production. In 2020, my first book was published through Songfire Press, a division of Weston World Productions, LLC. I am writing a documentary and in pre-production at this time.

Tell us about yourself

I have worked professionally in the performing arts since college. I love to create. Whether designing and writing alone, singing with musicians, or on a film set. I thrive on energy.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I believe my biggest accomplishments have been creating and managing both the artistic design and business goals at the same time for major productions and for my first book release.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Being an independent business owner in the arts means covering all of the business management tasks, including marketing and PR, and keeping in tune with your field and your niche while you are making time and space for creating - which is why you are here. It's very easy to be consumed by the business demands alone.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Before you start a business - interview several professionals of different ages, areas, and success to ask for their honest perspective of the field today, the future and their guidance.
  2. Educate yourself on what it will take to start and run the business financially, the time commitment, your energy, and how this might affect your health and family.
  3. Growing the business will be affected by all of this and your location, your audience demographics, the economy, and how tenacious you are in fulfilling your dreams.
