Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Katie Bramlett, Co-Founder of WeShape, located in Santa Cruz, CA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
WeShape is shaping a new way in wellness... less about how you look and more about how you feel! We're breaking down toxic weight-loss / body image culture while teaching people to care for their bodies.
Our product is a home workout system that offers real-time scalability and mindful coaching so we can help rebuild self-confidence. We like to say it's as if we paired a world-class personal trainer with your best friend or biggest cheerleader and brought them into your home for a workout made just for you!
Tell us about yourself
Tyler and I started an online health and fitness business back in 2013. After scaling a few companies, we wanted to go in a different direction and help more people.
We thought of this product idea and self-funded the efforts it took to build it- now, we're on a mission to make an impact and help people by bringing more awareness to the toxic weight-loss industry while offering a product that focuses more on how you feel rather than how you look.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Building a product that really serves our community and building a team that truly stands behind our mission. Our team is absolutely amazing, and I feel grateful that I get the privilege of working with them on this mission. Caring about people and making an impact for the greater good is what I'm most proud of.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Learning as you go. I don't have all the answers and being a leader means having to own that and be okay with making mistakes. I believe that the degree to which you are willing to face yourself is the degree to which you can have an impact on something greater.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Be okay with making mistakes, asking for help, and pivoting.
- Work on your deeper self. Find your real meaning. Work and move from that place.
- Only hire people that align with your vision and can offer perspectives outside of your own. Don't just hire people who agree with you.
