Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Wendy Lynne, a life and relationship coach based in Redmond, WA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I have over 12 years of highly successful relationship and family coaching experience. I believe we all hope to form long-lasting relationships with our kids, spouses, family, and friends with hardly any knowledge of what "relating to others" actually entails. I help clients repair and improve their relationships so they transform from experiencing pain, stress and frustration to their life feeling more supportive, life-enhancing, and fulfilling.

I have spent decades learning to change my entire outlook and attitude by uncovering the limiting beliefs that dictated and shaped my life, my health, and my relationships. I love sharing what I learned with others and have worked with men and women from all walks of life, including top executives of Fortune 500 companies, striving entrepreneurs, millennials launching their careers, and couples struggling in their relationships.

Tell us about yourself

Since I was a young girl, I struggled with feelings of low self-worth and imperfection picked up from parents who unconsciously felt the same way. There was a part of me that did not buy into those negative perceptions of myself, so I searched for a new way of thinking. A few of the first books I read in my teens were Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill and Unlimited Power by Tony Robbins. What I learned early on was how important mindset is, and that is one of the most rewarding and motivating things I am able to teach people. Most people make the mistake of thinking something external will make them happy, and I help them see the power is within them.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I have steadily increased my business to well over 6 figures when most life coaches barely make a living. I have done it by consistently marketing myself and doing a great job with my clients, so I get regular referrals.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Most people think that they can be a coach because they are good at giving advice or talking to people, but creating a successful business requires so much more. You have to be good at marketing yourself, and that could mean public speaking, writing regular articles, and being brave to promote yourself at social events. You can't just be good at what you do; you also have to be good at selling yourself!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Research what is already out there. It should not discourage you if someone else is doing it; it just means there is a market for what you do, but it can give you ideas.
  2. If you can work for someone else first who is doing what you do, so you can learn from them.
  3. Make sure you have a way to financially sustain yourself while your business is launching and becoming profitable. Too many people hope and pray the money will come, and they fold because they did not set themselves up financially to last.
