Start Healing With Functional Nutrition - Wellness RD
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Amy Archer RDN, CLT, CHWC, Founder of Wellness RD LLC., located in Campbell, CA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
My business is Wellness RD LLC. I specialize in functional nutrition, looking at the root cause of symptoms by reviewing our different body systems and incorporating nutrition as well as lifestyle changes. I focus on the gut-brain connection, so I see clients with digestive issues, fatigue, difficulty sleeping, migraines, eczema, and joint pain. I also consult with ADHD clients at an adult ADHD clinic on nutrition and gut-brain health.
Tell us about yourself
I am a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN), Certified LEAP Therapist (CLT) for Food Sensitivities, Certified Health and Wellness Coach (CHWC), and have additional training in functional nutrition through the Integrative Functional Nutrition Academy and SIBO Academy.
I have always loved health and wellness, even as a child. I started my private practice after working in the corporate world for over 20 years as a hospital dietitian and working for a medical company. My family had gut-brain symptoms, and functional nutrition provided an amazing resolution to their symptoms. This was my start in functional nutrition. Applying functional nutrition principles helps my clients feel better, and client success motivates me to continue supporting people in my practice.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Success with reducing client symptoms is my biggest accomplishment and having them refer their friends and family to me. I enjoy seeing people feel good and live their best life. One of my other accomplishments recently was writing a continuing education book for dietitians on functional nutrition and ADHD called An Integrative & Functional Nutrition Approach to ADHD Management https://wellnessrd.com/shop/.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Being a healthcare business owner is challenging as you wear so many hats, including a clinician, tech expert, writer, and bookkeeper. Also, staying motivated is important because you are working by yourself most of the time.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Stay connected. Find networking groups to keep in touch with other business owners.
- Set boundaries so you do not get overwhelmed. It is easy to get in the habit of doing it all, so outsource when needed.
- Continue learning. Health care and owning a business are always growing and changing, so staying up to date is important.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
Find your passion, love what you do, and make sure you get compensated appropriately for all your efforts.
