Reinventing The Healthcare Model - Wellness 360

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Beth Parry, Co-Founder of Wellness 360 Physical Therapy & Massage Therapy, located in Webster, NY, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Wellness 360 Physical Therapy and Massage, PLLC. We serve our community with Physical Therapy, Massage Therapy, and group fitness classes for disease management. We work with many types of patients, including those with Parkinson's Disease, Neruo Disorders, Orthopedics, and chronic pain. We strive to give back to the community by offering support groups and respite events and are involved in multiple community events.

Tell us about yourself

We want to change the healthcare model by focusing on patient care and lifelong disease management. We have worked in the healthcare field for a long time. We found it difficult to support patients in reaching their goals while treating multiple other patients at the same time. We decided that our patients needed one on one treatment and care. So that is what we did. We designed a company that focuses on the patient and their diagnosis.

We treat our patients one on one and offer complementary treatments like massage therapy and group fitness classes based on evidence-based exercises for disease management. We also have started support groups and respite events for local caregivers to support our patients loved ones. Seeing our patients not only survive but thrive with their diagnosis is so inspirational. Having the freedom to offer support throughout their journey is priceless.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

We decided to open Wellness 360 Physical Therapy and Massage, PLLC, about two years ago. We have hired four staff members and three contractors in that short time. We have developed an amazing program that supports our local Caregivers. It is one thing to run a successful business, but supporting local heroes is by far the most rewarding thing we have accomplished.

We offer respite events and Caregiver support groups. In addition to developing these amazing programs, we have won the Rochester Business Journal's Best Physical Therapy and sports rehabilitation clinic. We were nominated for Webster Chamber of Commerce Business of the month. I was nominated for the Rochester Business Journal's Women of Excellence award this year. So far, I am forever grateful that we took the leap of faith and started our own business.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

While being a business owner is one of the most rewarding things, it can be difficult. In the first few years, you are constantly learning new things. We are a small business and have taken on many roles. We treat patients, marketing, social media, community events, HR, payroll, insurance billing, cleaning toilets, etc. Sometimes you will go through moments wondering if your efforts matter. Please know they do matter!

As we continue to grow, we are learning how to find balance. What to hire out, what to do ourselves, how to delegate. These lessons have been hard, and we still have much to learn, but it has been fun!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Find an amazing support staff. I am fortunate enough to have the best business partner. Our strengths and weaknesses complement each other! Hire people that you would choose to spend your time with. Nothing is worse than working long days with someone you do not enjoy your time with!
  2. Network! Create long-lasting business relationships. The more you can give back to the community, the better! Never underestimate the support of local business owners.
  3. Take full advantage of the local Chamber of Commerce. They offer a lot of support for business owners, including business networking, educational events, and support.
  4. Just as an extra, enjoy what you do! You can not put a price tag on loving what you do!
