Focusing on You - Wellmade Restorative
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Amy Sichmeller, Founder of Wellmade Restorative, located in Kenosha, WI, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Wellmade Restorative provides holistic one-on-one health coaching to individuals that are looking to live a healthier and more vibrant lifestyle. Health is very individualistic, so I've found the most success in meeting people where they are in their journey and providing support that is specific to their health goals. My areas of focus are whole food nutrition, gut health, hormone health, and stress-management
While I was in the depths of my health journey and looking for ways to heal my body holistically through food, I developed a product line of superfood booster blends. These blends focus on decreasing overall inflammation, gut health, immune health, and skin health and can be incorporated into smoothies, oatmeal, baked goods, even soups, stews, and seasoning rubs.
My customers/clients range from teens to folks in their 70's, and I offer in-person and virtual sessions.
Tell us about yourself
For the majority of my life, cooking has been my passion. I worked with food in some capacity my entire adult life. After having my two boys and going back to work full-time as a Food Stylist and later a Chef (all the while still trying to do ALL the things), I found myself not feeling so well. I knew something was off, but I was unable to get answers from doctors. After three years of being told, "I was just a busy mom and getting older," and all my symptoms were normal, I took my health into my own hands and buried myself in books and research. I started incorporating superfoods into my diet as I was working on healing my gut and, after about six months, finally started to feel some relief. I knew there had to be so many others experiencing similar health interruptions and felt the pull to take my career in another direction.
I made the decision to start a product line and health coaching business and move away from the food service industry as it was one that did not align with my personal healing process. I wanted flexibility as well as the ability to grow and increase my profits on my terms. I tend to be a pretty motivated person - but I've learned helping others with their health is the most rewarding thing I've ever done - and that motivates me every day.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment as a business owner, I would say, is I have truly found a way to feel challenged, purposeful, and balanced while generating the necessary revenue to replace my previous career. I believe I did this through staying authentic, being confident in my abilities and knowledge base, and knowing when to contract out or ask for help. Let's just say I'm not a numbers person or technology wizard.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The hardest thing about being a business owner is finding that perfect groove of not falling into complacency and not trying to do too much at once. When I get an idea, I tend to get VERY excited, and I want to implement it like yesterday, ha! I've learned to pull back a bit and be a bit more strategic as opposed to acting out of emotion.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Kick the fear of failure in the behind and don't look back. Never let your pride get in the way of trying something new.
- Do not overthink things. Your gut instinct will take you to great places.
- Find a pal, networking group, or side-kick that you can brainstorm with. There is nothing more energizing than talking through ideas and putting processes and plans together to bring a concept to life.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
You truly have the power to create a life you love. If you are feeling the pull to build a brand, no matter how big or small, and it aligns with your ideals, take the leap. You will not regret trying.
