Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Michele Broad, Founder of Well Women Network, located in Hemet, CA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Well Women Network was born out of a deep desire to teach women about their overall health as it pertains to them being a woman in a non-judgemental and not too sciency way. Our #1 mission is to help high-achieving businesswomen optimize their health and wellness by teaching and showing them how and why they need to be their #1 self-care advocate. The current medical model is broken, and it has been broken for some time, especially when it comes to the world of women's health education and empowering women to understand their health. Here at Well Women Network, we want to disrupt the outdated knowledge that what is good for our male counterparts is equally good for us and that women's health should be about more than just our breasts and vaginas. We seek to impact high-achieving business women aged 35-55 from all cultural and ethnic backgrounds and show them why learning about their health is their best business and life asset.

Tell us about yourself
I have been a certified women's health/adult nurse practitioner for over 30 years, and I have had the privilege to serve thousands of women during that time. I was drawn into the women's health space as I felt who knows a woman's body better than another woman. After 30 years of hands-on practice in an office setting, I decided to create the Well Women Network so that I could take this ministry that I was given to even more women. This is a calling for me, not merely a job. What motivates me every day is seeing so many women disempowered by the current medical model and wanting to level the playing field, so to speak. I love when women learn about their health and feel empowered, less scared, and confused about it. Understanding what is happening to your body in simple terms helps to let go of the fear and stress, and we all could use less fear and stress in our lives.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I think the biggest accomplishment as a business owner is seeing the impact of women learning about their health and taking charge of it. My joy and satisfaction lie in my clients understanding their bodies and stepping into their role as their #1 self-care advocate, then advocating for their health.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
For me, the hardest thing that comes with being a business owner is keeping my blinders on, not doing the comparison game with myself, and trusting my instincts above all else. Staying in your lane and staying true to who you are and what your business is about is hard when you see so many people doing it differently and crushing it, but you don't align with their process.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Understand that running and growing a business comes with a lot of ups and downs, and you will need to be ok with falling and getting back up many times.
- Keep your blinders on and stay focused on your true calling and what you want your business to look like.
- Know that there may be several iterations because your business will change as you and your customer change and grow. Be ok with being nimble.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
Women need to start being ok with sharing their health concerns and issues publicly because the only way we can change things is to disrupt the status quo and stand as a united front. The more women understand their health, the better they can advocate for themselves and their families.
