Focus on You - Weidenbaum Development & Associates

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal and business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Wendy Weidenbaum, CEO of Weidenbaum Development & Associates, located in Edison, NJ, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a behavioral change artist who helps leaders and teams shift their mindsets, skills, and behaviors to drive results and change. In every engagement, I start with a blank canvas, ask searching questions, and help my clients arrive at a more profound and nuanced understanding of themselves and the situation, as well as of the steps they can take to achieve their goals around managing personal and organizational change. I help my clients become more impactful. I am an executive coach, team coach, career coach, and trainer of leadership and management skills.

Tell us about yourself

I left a high-powered position on Wall Street because I wanted more freedom in my life and time with my family. I leverage my strengths and combine my corporate and start-up experience with a great deal of empathy, intuition, and art, seeking first to understand my clients on a deeper level. I prioritize pragmatism and accountability while also maintaining my warmth and enthusiasm.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Helping to change people's lives and the organizations they work in through the value I add. 85% of those I coach are promoted or take on new responsibilities.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The anxiety of looking at your calendar and not seeing anything on it that will help you produce revenue. Not knowing when your next paycheck will come. Not knowing when to throw in the towel or persevere.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. There are three things in running a business...you need to get the work, do the work, and administer the work. You can't do all three well, only two out of the three. You need to figure out which of the two you enjoy and outsource the third.
  2. When starting a new business, be open-minded and resilient. Your business model will change due to the market, industry, and ways you are able to leverage your strengths.
  3. Network and don't compare your success to anyone else's.
