No Cheap Tricks, Just Data and Hard Work - WaymakerSEO
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in advertising services but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Joshua Monge, Founder of WaymakerSEO, located in Tulsa, OK, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Waymaker SEO is a "work with you" SEO Consulting Service. We share our process and best practices with our clients to help them on their SEO journey. No cheap tricks, No black box, just data, and hard work. Our target clients have established businesses with most marketing elements in place but need help starting or improving their web traffic. Ideally, they would already have a person or two dedicated to marketing that can leverage our time together to incorporate SEO into their broader marketing efforts.
Tell us about yourself
I'm a consultant and economist at heart. I want to help people fill the knowledge gap and empower people to make positive changes to their efforts that produce better results. I have over 20 years of experience in various industries and positions in a company. I have seen what happens when people don't have all the information or know what to do. SEO is relatively straightforward. Once you learn the tactics, you then learn the strategy and how to execute tactics in the best way. So every day, I get to help people learn and grow in marketing efforts, saving them time, energy, and money.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Building a business that has scaleable processes that deliver results. It's like figuring out how to make a great chocolate chip cookie. I have a recipe that works and is repeatable.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The early stage was trying to figure out how to develop a process that produces positive results. Once I developed a strategy and documentation to repeat what was working, it became easier to sell what I did. In this growth stage, I'm struggling with doing the work to be in a place to leverage others to expand my customer base. I've worked so hard to get to this place that training someone else to take over is like going back to developing a process and trial and erroring a way forward.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Don't do it unless you want to test your grit and ability to problem solve and are ready for a feast and famine phase in your life.
- Always be learning; there is a lot to know about running a business. The service/product delivery is just one facet of the business. Learn enough about each aspect of the business to hire the right people or buy the right tools.
- Error on the doing. Planning is excellent and essential, but you don't know how something will work or play out without actually doing things. Read, plan, and hope for the best. When it doesn't work, figure out how to do it better next time. If it does the job, try it again. Once you've seen success a few times, codify that process, and build that into a solid offering.
