The Ultimate Candle Making Experience - Wax N Vibes
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in candle-making but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Maegan Grace, owner of Wax N Vibes, located in Tampa, FL, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Wax N Vibes started out as a house candle-making hobby and turned custom candle-making experience to show the process of how a candle is made while enjoying the vibes being smelled & scent around (pun intended) by our amazing customers.
Tell us about yourself
I started making candles; well, experimenting with candles; when I was around the age of 11, it was a hobby at first, and being 11, the experimenting part really caught my eye. But it really turned into a business when I was older, 19-20ish, and I realized that a lot of people also love candles as much as I do. I started out selling candles with funny, witty, explicit sayings, and people loved those. The main thing I love about making candles is that you can make a candle how you want it to smell. For instance, a candle can make you remember memories of family members, personal things, and more. Now that wax n vibe is up and running, I now realize that I inspire so many younger girls to pursue something they enjoy doing, whether it's owning a business or working in a specific field, and I'm proud to be that girl in my industry.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I would say my biggest accomplishment is opening wax n vibes with just an idea written on paper turn a vision with the help of family members. Also, Wax N Vibes opened in the midst of a pandemic.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The hardest thing about being in a business is that I'm a first-time business owner, so I'm still learning the ropes of owning and operating a business. Many people will say open a business but what they won't say is how to operate and keep the business flowing.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- It's ok to have good and bad days, weeks, and months.
- It's not what you know but who you know to use your resources while running a business and always be cordial when meeting someone you never know they may need you or you may need them one day.
- Instagram/Facebook followers don't equal the revenue/ profit in your business. Don't compare your business's social media to others just because they all these thousand of followers.
- Major tip: People love seeing who owns the business, so get out of your head thinking people want to support it because it's 7 billion people in the world, and yes, it is A LOT of people who will.
