Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in financial services but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kathleen Di Paolo, Founder of Wanderers Wealth, located in Bali, Indonesia.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I run an international consulting firm that helps Global Citizens, Digital Nomads, Expats, and Location Independent Entrepreneurs figure out the legal logistics of their international lifestyle. This includes optimizing their international tax situation, providing them with the best business setup, bank account openings, and securing their second residencies and citizenships.

Tell us about yourself

As a former tax lawyer who quit the 9 to 5 to travel the world, I quickly realized that other traveling entrepreneurs were completely overwhelmed with their tax situation. On top of that, most traveling entrepreneurs were struggling to find accountants and tax experts that had proper cross-border experience. As a big supporter of having an international lifestyle, I wanted to find answers for my own situation and, in return, be able to help others implement these global solutions. Having grown up in an international environment with multiple passports, I've experienced the massive benefits of being a global citizen and picking and choosing the best that each country has to offer, from low taxes to an entrepreneurial-friendly environment - and I want my people to experience this freedom too.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

For me, it's the thank you messages that I get from my clients when they send me a picture from their new homes in Costa Rica, Dubai, and Panama - just to name a few, and knowing that all of their legal logistics are taken care of and that they're living out their dreams of moving abroad whilst also being in a better financial position. The ripple effect of this is massive as they're building a new legacy for their families, and they're able to fully re-focus on their own zone of geniusness and focus on building their own empires.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

For me, it's balancing work with 'me time. I'm so passionate about my business, and what it stands for that I could be working non-stop. It's important to remind myself to take some time off.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Get clear on your 'why' - what's the bigger vision behind your business, what drives and motivates you, and what's the message you want to share with the world? Let that be your guiding force, and I promise you if you lead with that, the right people will be naturally drawn to your business.
  2. Once you decide to start a business - go all in. Sure, you could treat it like a side hobby, but once you go all in, that's when you really start seeing progress. Nothing good has ever come from fear letting you hold back. Learn, research, and evolve every day together with your business and serve your people as best as you can.
  3. Don't be scared to reinvent yourself at any point (applies to yourself and your business). Sometimes your business might even require you to reinvent yourself to push you to the next level. The only constant is change - so embrace it.
