What's your business, and who are your customers?
Wall + Wonder Home Decor offers an affordable mix of modern and vintage wall prints that speak to you, inspire you, and delight you. I specialize in custom art with colors to match your home. I sell online with my website, on Etsy, and Amazon.
Tell us about yourself
I started my Etsy business in 2014, after a 20-year career in public relations, marketing, and event planning when I found myself between jobs. After about six months of selling on Etsy, I had a full-time income and haven't looked back. I love being in control of my time and having the flexibility to be more present with my kids. I get excited to work every time I open my computer.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I am very proud that I have been able to work from home for the past eight years. Not many businesses make it past the 5-year mark, so I'm very grateful to be able to do that.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
The hardest part is the inconsistency in sales and trying to budget for the downturns. We can't control the economy, but I'm always looking for ways to be consistent and create different income streams.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
The first thing that I always tell people is just to start. You can figure things out along the way. I also believe that things do not need to be perfect. Done is better than perfect, as they say. I would also tell people not to undervalue themselves and watch their numbers right from the beginning.
