Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Wainani Arnold, owner of Wainani Wellness Center, located in Honolulu, HI, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
We are a boutique fitness studio in Kaimuki. We offer private training and small group classes based on Pilates, the GYROTONIC® Method, and Functional training. These unique and low-impact training methods allow clients to transform their bodies. Our customers range from individuals who love to move and want to maintain their physical abilities with a little extra flair to individuals who are desperate to get out of pain and have had little success with other types of training. We draw the crowd who likes a good challenge but wants to move in a safe way that yields life-lasting results.
Tell us about yourself
I started dancing hula when I was 5, then got into hip-hop, jazz, ballet, and modern dance. I received my BFA in Dance and Theatre. Initially, I found my way to yoga, Pilates, and GYROTONIC® to help my body keep up with the demands of a dance career. I then stuck with them because they brought me back to health from several injuries. What motivates me each day to do what I do is hearing clients say, "I'm out of pain now," or "I was able to go back to what I love (surfing, skiing, etc.) without fear, and I felt so strong," or perhaps my favorite, "I tweaked my back doing yard work this weekend, but I knew exactly what exercises to do to fix it." What drives me is reviving the hope in people that they can improve their situation and feel better in their bodies. Moving people towards answers and away from resigning to, "well, this is just the way it is; there is nothing I can do." There is so much information out there, and it's fun to help people find what exercises, healing methods, practitioners, and experiences can be helpful to them.
