Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Anastasia Suazo, Founder of VoudouRopes, located in Playa del Carmen, Mexico.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I do shibari, the art of Japanese rope tying. My business is based on selling lessons of shibari, online courses, and photo sessions with rope. My customer base is very diverse. People of all ages and countries come to learn. But what unites them all - is curiosity and willingness to explore something new and not to be afraid to open up and let go. A lot of people start shibari with me to learn how to let go and feel their body better or connect with themselves and their partners.

Tell us about yourself

I have been discovering shibari for myself for six years, constantly learning and developing my own style. I've been giving private and group shibari lessons for three years. Also, I had exhibitions of my shibari installations in Moscow and Mexico City. For me, shibari is the art of wordless communication. The art of stopping the time for your partner to let them enjoy the moment. The art of empowering your partner by bounding him.. the art of caring and giving. Sharing this and helping people love themselves a little more every day motivates me to keep going.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I launched two unique and successful online courses in 2 languages and kept in touch with my students helping them to grow.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

You need to learn how to delegate. This is the hardest part. Let go of part of your work and find good people you trust to do it. Then you start really growing.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Anything can become a business. Look, I basically ...tie people up, and I made it into a business. Don't give up if something is not working out for you; it will. Just keep learning and experimenting if this is what you really want.
  2. If there is anything you can delegate - do it right away. Value your time!
  3. Surround yourself with the people that care and value what you are doing. Then you will be more motivated!
