What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a solo esthetician. I have always dreamed of having my own business. I got laid off during the pandemic from my previous job, and I started offering virtual skincare consul. I took a deep breath, and I said to myself, now is the time! I opened my facial studio Oct. of 2020. Today I'm booked for the rest of the year.

Tell us about yourself

I'm originally from Brazil. I came to the United States in 1999 as a nanny. One of the families I worked with encouraged me to go to massage therapy school. I had to go back home because my mother was sick; then, I came back to the States, and I enrolled in a massage therapy training. One day a massage therapist friend asked me to cover his shift at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Philadelphia once, twice, and more times....lol.

A few months later, I got the full-time position as an MT. A year later, the spa manager suggested getting my esthetic license. So I did. I have been an MT and LE esthetician for 20 years now. You asked What motivates me every day??? I'm leaving the American Dream. I am living my dream. Inspiring women to claim their beauty and overall well-being is my oxygen; it just happens that I can make a good living doing it. I'm Grateful.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I'm booked for the year. And this is only my second year in business.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Embrace the ups and downs of entrepreneurship. The countless hours of work in and out of the treatment room. Owning your own business is like caring for your newborn. But I wouldn't change a thing.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Study the people you admire in your industry, ask questions, research, and attend workshops, seminars, and mastermind programs. Invest in yourself first. Ultimately you are your business.
