Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Lauren Chelec Cafritz, Founder of Vitality Breath, located in Bethesda, MD, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am the founder and director of Vitality Breath. Breathwork is for everyone! I facilitate breathwork retreats, conferences, and workshops across the world and lead breathwork sessions for executive teams, nonprofits, government agencies, corporations, hospitals, and schools. I am teaching two retreats in Costa Rica this October. I also teach an online group class every Monday night and a monthly in-person class in Bethesda, Maryland. I also conduct virtual and in-person one-on-one coaching.
Tell us about yourself
It all started with a pain in my neck. When my son was about nine months old, my neck really started to bother me. The pain got so intense that I couldn't turn my neck and could barely hold my son. I tried everything from massage to yoga to western medicine. That's how I found breathwork. It helped me realize that my pain was both physical and emotional. Like many people who start breathwork - I went for one reason and discovered so many more gifts.
I am motivated each day by helping people get to wellness and wholeness through as many natural ways as possible. The way you breathe is how you live your life. Breath is your best friend – it's powerful. I want people to feel empowered to live their best life. The breath does so many things for you. It's the calm in the storm. It connects you to your intuition and your inner wisdom. It brings healing. It lets you know that everything is going to be okay. With the breath, you are never alone - you are whole. I start every day with some breathwork to boost my energy and get me ready to live my best day.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I am honored every day to know that I get to help people. I would say one of my biggest accomplishments is opening my Vitality Breath school. Through the school, we are training and certifying breath workers so that we're able to help even more people.
My second accomplishment is writing my book Breath LOVE. I want anyone to be able to pick up my book and get whatever support they need, and I want to know more. I wanted to mainstream breathwork and share everything I know about it in a way that is easily accessible. Breath LOVE is a personal journey for me — it's part memoir, part inspirational, and part instruction.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The hardest thing is knowing that you are responsible for the success of your business. Your hardwork, dedication, and resilience are what help your business grow. The positive piece of this is that you are in charge of your own destiny.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Be brave and courageous! You've got this!
- Be dedicated and resilient. It takes time and continued effort to grow a business.
- Be persistent in your message.
