Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal care but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jenna Switzer, Founder and CEO of Vital You, located in Boulder, CO, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is Vital You. We specialize in handcrafted, small-batch bath bombs and body products. Our products will appeal to anyone looking to amplify their everyday self-care routine or those seeking further holistic healing and well-being. Our products are crafted with specific ailments or conditions in mind, meaning that whether someone is seeking deeper sleep, relief from physical discomfort, or overall relaxation, we have a product formulated just for you.

Tell us about yourself

I founded Vital You in 2018. At this time, I was dealing with undiagnosed chronic pelvic conditions, which motivated me to create a holistic remedy that combined all the healing modalities I loved and utilized into one cohesive product. I went to school for herbal medicine and holistic nutrition and was able to utilize this wealth of knowledge to create my product line.

Over the last five years, Vital You has grown to have a team of driven healers, dreamers, and herbalists. This team, along with our mission of providing healing and relaxing products, is what motivates me every single day to show up as the best boss, partner, and friend that I can be.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment in owning Vital You is that I can say with full confidence that I am living my life’s passion. While some people dream of having power or great wealth, I have always known that I wanted to create a product that would bring healing into people’s lives. Alongside this dream, I strive to create a unique work environment where my team and I will have flexibility and leadership roles and be able to see the impact they make every day.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

I am perpetually thinking about the business, and this is both the hardest part about being a business owner and a blessing. It is extremely hard to shut the part of my brain off that is continually focused on VY. I typically wake up every morning thinking about what I am going to work on in the business, work on it all day, go to sleep reflecting on it, and dream about it in my sleep. And although this is exhausting at times, it also gives me solace knowing that I am so passionate about Vital You that I never want to stop thinking about how I can grow the business or as a person.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

My top tips for any aspiring entrepreneur are to trust your gut, follow your passion, and create a strong community around you. If you have a strong passion and you feel inspired to create something from it, chances are there is a whole community of people waiting for you to launch this. And without the help of a strong, supportive community, you will likely hit burnout sooner than later. So dive deep into what you believe in, share it with the world around you, and don’t be afraid to ask for help along the way.
