What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are an on-location Event and Production Makeup & Hair Team. Our lead makeup artist has a Fine Arts education and a Television background of 30 years. I only associate myself with people who are very detail-oriented and have a high sense of integrity. Our customers are Brides, women attending events, actors (for headshots), and producers who make commercials & Branding videos. I also teach makeup online to women all over the country.

Tell us about yourself

I was a fine artist first & have always loved the art of makeup, so for me; it was a natural progression. My motivation is that I really love what I do and put a great deal of thought and preparation into each project.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

First of all, I was one of the first MUAs in Chicago to bring airbrushing into my business - 17 years. Plus, using an airbrush at CBS News in Chicago from 2005-to 2019.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest thing is to stay motivated to promote my business. Of course, you can hire people to help you with that, but the pandemic was so difficult financially that even now, self-promotion is the best way to go.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Starting a business, make lists in order of priority. Run a business-Delegate to your employees or associates. Be very specific in telling them what you want them to do. Growing a business-try to work on it every that you have time, even if it's only a few hours.
