Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Heather DiGiacomo, Owner of Village Spin, located in Medina, NY, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Village Spin is a fitness center that is in a studio, On-the-Go, and on demand. Our mission is to build a healthy community through social fitness and wellness. We help clients build commitment to their health by offering classes and programs that encourage camaraderie and community! Our clients represent a wide range of "working age" folks that want to improve their health through fitness, nutrition, and mindset.
Tell us about yourself
When I got serious about my own health and fitness, I knew I was going to need a place where I felt supported, motivated, and valued to keep me engaged for the long haul. I loved the benefits of working out with others, so I created a fitness center that offered a wide variety of group fitness classes that challenged all types of fitness and conditioning. I love waking up early to work on me, my health. Knowing there is a team of like-minded people meeting me there each morning motivates me every day to do my best!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
One of our biggest accomplishments was being able to shift through the pandemic to stay connected with our community. We launched a LIVE online program and an On Demand program to keep our community together. As a result of what we were observing in our community, we expanded services and began offering health coaching, nutrition support, and mindset/mindfulness workshops.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
One of the biggest challenges for me was developing healthy habits for business. Owning a business was starting to own my life. I needed to reclaim a little time so I didn't burn out, lose excitement, or overlook new opportunities.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Passion is the fuel in the fire of action! If you want to chase goals to grow a business, then passion needs to be the renewable resource that intrinsically motivates you. As passion guides you, be open to learning and growing from others in the field and new ways of operating.
