Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with White Wolf Von Atzingen, Owner of Viking Wolf Seidr, located in Starksboro, VT, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
What I do is actually muti-faceted in concerns of business. There are three main areas that comprise both their own business avenues, as well as combined to create different faces of the same core.
Viking Wolf Seiðr is sort of my main online storefront, if you will. This taps directly into the ancient teachings of my western Scandinavian ancestry and brings to life the old lessons and sharing of the runes and other classic aspects of ancient Northern Germania and Scandinavian cultures. This spans rune work, ceremony, elemental focus, and the individual personal interpretation of one's life and path.
Viking Wolf Craft is a very physically creative part of what I do. I’ve always loved to create using all-natural materials by way of the ancient methods of crafting. Horn, bone, leather, wood, stone, and other natural materials are my favorite mediums.
Writing is something I sort of fell into.
Over the years, I’ve written more than 1,000 articles about various aspects of my business. Recently I finished an autobiographical 816-page book that was released this summer. I am already in the process of writing my next book detailing my wilderness adventures, at least some of the many.
For many years I ran Small Circles of 5 Animals Jujitsu, which I only recently moved away from. I am the 10th-degree black belt and grandmaster of the style. During a span of more than a decade, I taught all aspects of the style, as well as close-quarter combat to civilians, military, and law enforcement.
Today my customers span people from all walks of life who appreciate authenticity, craftsmanship, personal insight, and growth, as well as a look into a world of adventure.
Tell us about yourself
I have been studying martial arts since 1981 and hold the rank of 10th degree, Dan, in Small Circles of 5 Animals Jujitsu. Shao Lin Kung Fu, 18 hand Lohan Kung Fu, Muai Thai, Glima, Hsing I Ch'uan, Tai Chi Ch'uan, and Chi Kung are among other arts I’ve studied. I studied wilderness living and wilderness survival for 10 years in my youth and ran two wilderness skills schools from 2008 through 2015. For a while, I taught specialized, close-quarter combat to civilians as well as military and law enforcement individuals.
I’m a certified Reiki Master/Teacher and hold a Master Level in Nord Seiðr Græðari. I have training and experience in all manner of energy work hands-on as well as remotely (TCM and Tribal based), mindfulness techniques, breathing exercises, and Scandinavian Shamanistic practice.
Over the years, I’ve climbed over 20 mountains above 14,000 feet elevation, 13 mountains over 13,000 feet, and many others of lower elevation. During the years of spec ops work, I traveled and traversed many regions of the western hemisphere.
I’ve always thoroughly enjoyed being outdoors hiking, camping, kayaking, canoeing, skiing, snowshoeing, exploring, and just sitting quietly and observing life. Interacting with animals has always been a passion of mine. Crafting traditional works of art based on Scandinavian and Native American cultures also has kept me busy. I love to read and paint also. Today though, I struggle with a neuroimmune disease that has been forcing me to reexamine my entire life and how I interact with the world.
My businesses have always been expressions of what I love to do and am good at. They allow me room to breathe, grow, and be who I am.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I must say my biggest accomplishment so far has been to create multiple platforms to express my creativity while keeping them all part of the core focus - to offer and share with the world the best of what I am.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Pacing and Patience! Nothing happens overnight. Very little happens in the way you envision. Sometimes events play out far faster than anticipated, and you may not be ready for them. If you try to cement a pace you think your business should run at, frustration and undoing stress will be your constant companion. Flowing with an organic pace with a solid dose of patience can make a huge difference.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Never compromise yourself. Form the business to your will and your values, and do not let it take control of you.
Create a niche by introducing something of YOU into your business. Whatever you are doing, someone else will either be doing it as well or will be before long. Personalize what you do so that only you can pull it off in that manner.
Relax - keep your drive without stressing over it. Have fun doing what you do!
Be flexible - if one way doesn’t work, don’t sweat it; try a different angle. Think of your core as a wheel hub. If one spoke doesn’t play out, try another.
